Welcome to Spring and Autumn: Story of China! - a 4x game for 1-5 players set in ancient china, based off of the award winning Hellenica system... but in less time! - It will feature our Award Winning Solo/AI system in EVERY COPY from Day 1! - Fully designed and ready to go - not an additional add on or unlock - its designed into the Core Game for Everyone!

Around 800BC China was blossoming as a civilization. The Zhou emperor sat on the throne of a feudal China and ruled through wise philosophers, able warlords, and a strong army. The Chinese world was making huge cultural, scientific, and philosophical strides.

But a single generation later, those same advisors and lords rose up against the throne, and each other, to claim hegemony for their philosophy and way of life. Welcome to the Spring and Autumn period of ancient China.

Spring and Autumn: Story of China is a 4X civilization game in which you take control of one of the pre-eminent states of the time to explore the world around you, expand your borders, research powerful advancements, build up your economy, and bring honor upon your name. Your goal is to establish the first true dynasty in China.

Spring and Autumn: Story of China expands on the system from in Hellenica: Story of Greece, introducing all-new gameplay elements like a philosophy system, diplomacy, enhanced combat, honor, expanded victory conditions, the Great Wall, and did we mention Chinese dragons? As with all "Story of" games, Spring and Autumn: Story of China will include the best AI and solo play system available in a 4x game.
The gameboard for Spring and Autumn represent feudal China circa 800BC, representing the many warlords that all vied for the throne of China. The map also shows the valleys, mountains, major rivers of China that all helped shape the events of the period.

Core Game Contents: 125 action cubes, 260+ tokens, 210+ military tokens, 8 dice, 70 mini cards, 122 cards, 5 play mats, rules and 1 game board (so far!) - more to come via stretch goals (like Dragons!)

Want to Experience Spring and Autumn: Story of China with miniatures? -take a peek below at our miniature sculpts and plans!

Military Tokens can be replaced by these AMAZING and HIGHLY DETAILED minis - 40+ figures per player - Over 200 total!
This image shows what the replaced building tokens will look like. We feel they add so much to the game in 3d!

Minis Box Set Contents: 215 Military miniatures and 110+ buildings. These minis sets will undoubtedly NEVER be sold at this low of a price again and will be printed to order by demand via this campaign with a very small amount of extras made. Due to the immense cost of producing minis, these will be a Mr. B direct exclusive item - with no plans of a reprint or retail release unless there is an overwhelming demand later. We are a small publisher and simply cannot produce these at a wholesale cost competitively like other big companies can (and keep the quality this high!) - Backed our previous game Hellenica? These will be similar (but better) than our Mythic Expansion minis - which sold out fast, and have NEVER sold direct outside of Kickstarter to this date. This is your BEST and likely ONLY chance to get these awesome minis!

Spring and Autumn: Story of China will ONLY be available DIRECTLY from Mr. B. Games on this campaign, and after via our website or shows should any copies remain for at least 6 months to a year. We may do a future reprint or sell remaining stock after should demand warrant - BUT - This campaign is to create the game WE want to make - and our vision to get it there! No Retail version is planned at this time. Backing Spring and Autumn here, now - is the ONLY way to guarantee it is made, and you get a copy! - For Reference, Hellenica: Story of China was sold in 2018 via kickstarter and is just now getting a retail printing for 2022 due to overwhelming demand (though the Mythic Expansion of Miniatures is NOT being produced and remains a Mr. B. Exclusive).

Thank you for considering our game! - We had a blast on our last big minis Game - and learned ALOT about how to make Spring and Autumn EVEN BETTER! Pledge with confidence - and if you would like to check us out for our quality, check out Hellenica: Story of Greece on BGG HERE- which was our last Big Box miniatures game, for quality and scope.

HOW TO PLAY SPRING AND AUTUMN

There is a TON going in this core set! - It may look daunting, but really its not. Setup is a breeze and the quick paced nature of turns is one of Spring and Autumns real shining points which we will focus on below (the steps of a turn).

The Most Honorable Phase

The beginning of every Round starts with players announcing how many Honor tokens they have. Whomever has the most gets the Most Honorable Marker for the turn and can determine play direction for this Round. On the very first turn this player is random.

 The Action Phase

This is the real meat and potatoes of Spring and Autumn - and where players will spend most of their time plotting!
There are 5 possible things you can do on your turn explained in detail in the rules and pictures - but we will simply summarize them here as well to help make learning the game easier (as this is the most fundamental part!)

We have found that when first playing the game, on your first turn, when in doubt, do your actions in playerboard order - top left to right and will explain each here as well!

Honor Action
To take an Honor Action, simply remove your cube from your playmat on the Honor Space - and place it on one of your Shrines on the Gameboard. You will collect an Honor Token (used during the Honor Phase and for bidding in World Events).

Research Action
To take a Research Action, simply remove your cube from your playmat on the Research Space - and place it on one of your Academies on the Gameboard. You will collect a Knowledge Token that you may hold or use to research a new advancement on your player board.

Train Action
To take a Train Action, simply remove your cube from your playmat on the Train Space - and place it on one of your Barracks on the Gameboard. You will then be able to place military units of your choice in this region (for future exploration and conquering!)

Build Action
To take a Build Action, simply remove your cube from your playmat on the Build Space - and place it along with a building token of your choosing on the Gameboard. The natural wood cube shows the building is under construction and will not be able to be used until next turn - so you need to plan ahead!

Supply Action
To take a Supply Action, simply remove your cube from your playmat on the Supply Space - and place it on one of your Markets on the Gameboard. You will then be able to "supply" one space on the map to activate and move those units. Alternatively, you may not wish to move or explore this time, and can instead collect a commerce token to use later. Once you have saved 3 Commerce Tokens you can cash them in to perform another action - even if you no longer have those action cubes available! - Supply is VERY VERY powerful!

Exchange Action
This is one of two actions you can do without spending an action cube from your player board. You simply take this action to exchange 3 commerce tokens to the bank and perform any of the 5 above actions (you still need to place a cube on a building and or have a place to place it to do it).

Pass Action
When you have no available actions (or choose not to take anymore) you may pass. Which may sound like a lame action - but its pretty strategic!
When you Pass in Spring and Autumn, you receive commerce tokens if you have 1 or 2 action cubes left on your player board (if you have 3 or more you still only get 2). These can be used in a future Exchange action!

Building Building!
A pretty cool thing in Spring and Autumn is the buildings you build via actions. There are 6 types and they all do super cool things for you which will effect your game and make each game unique. Some will allow you new Philosophies (Shrines) others the ability to make Military Leaders (Academies) and some protect you from invaders! (Walls).

Explore!
Spring and Autumn has a huge map to explore and conquer - and you will want to do so - because you need more land to build more buildings to get more perks!

Goals!
Spring and Autumn uses Public and Private Objectives during the game that will trigger the end game. You will start with some and each turn new ones appear in the ever changing no two games the same world!

Endgame and Dishonor!
When the game end is triggered the person with the most objectives wins! - AHHHH but there is a catch - Honor was a huge thing in China (still is!) and players must first reveal all of their dishonor tokens - because the player with the highest dishonor value cannot claim victory!

While there is alot going on in the rulebook - the real core of the game comes from your player board, and how you want to take your actions. How and where will you build on the map. What Philosophies will you go for in your strategy (which may change based on those Objectives) and how and where you want to expand. Do you want to fight your way to victory, or use treaties and diplomacy for a surprise victory? The choices are yours - and we hope that everything you will need to play Spring and Autumn is found on your player board - to keep the action and fun going!

In our experiences, every game feels different. What type of Research do you want to do steers your exploration - treaties and goals shape the landscape too. Occasionally you may need to refer to the rulebook for something specific - but likely just the back page of the manual's quick reference guide is all you will need!

Shipping

Shipping will be collected later, in our Pledge Manager (after the campaign) - Please watch for the updates of when the PM opens :)
*As of Jan 1, 2021 many countries now require crowd funding creators to charge taxes/VAT. We will list these in the pledge manager accordingly with local fulfilment rates.

Estimates for shipping -1- SPRING Reward are:

USA - $17
USA (Outside the Lower 48) - $25
CANADA/CHINA/HONG KONG/MACAU - $19-$22
UK/EU - $25 - subject to VAT of 19-25% depending on where you live (or where we import)
AUSTRALIA/NZ/OCEANIA*** - $29 subject to taxes
*** Japan, Philippians, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam
ROTW - (everywhere else not listed or excluded) $35-50 - PLEASE make sure you are not using an address from an excluded country - consider a 3rd party mail forwarding service if you are - we want to get our dice to you, but sadly post carriers make this difficult for us.

PLEASE NOTE - There are just estimates and subject to change - Miniatures Rewards (Autumn or Now and Later) will be a few dollars more due to weight!

Countries Excluded: We are no longer able to ship to Brazil, Russia, Mexico, South America, South Africa or the Middle East Area (including Turkey and Egypt) due to high postage prices, and lost parcels. If you live in one of these areas, we recommend you use a USA or EU address and have the game forwarded to you via a relative/friend or postage forwarding company.
We continue to work with different fulfillment centers all over the world to ensure better and more affordable delivery each campaign but none will guarantee delivery to these countries. We use 3rd party fulfillment houses and cannot control the speed of delivery to some areas but will always use the best options available. Damages may occur during transit - you should always try to work with your local carrier if possible and contact our customer service if you have any issues (mrbgames.cs(atsymbol)gmail)

We plan to ship in 2 waves with a last call. The first will be to those who fill out their survey by our announced cut off date (which will be in an update). Wave 2 will follow shortly after, with a last call after that. Those who do not fill in their surveys by the wave 1 cutoff may be subject to additional vat and shipping fees outside the usa - but we will always do our best to try and ship from the closest hub to you possible to avoid extra fees when possible.

The Team and The Terms

No project could be possible without a team of folks to help us. Spring and Autumn is no exception. Below are just some of the folks who are making this project possible:

Designer - Scott Demers - Scott has been involved with gaming for as long as he can remember. Designing board games was a natural extension of that passion. Plus, Scott is a workaholic who does not relax well. Outside of board gaming, Scott has a lengthy background in the software industry where he has worked in visualization, data, artificial intelligence, and video gaming. His experience with AI was one of his key reasons for including solo play in Spring and Autumn out of the box. Scott would like to thank the many play testers who helped fine tune this game. Without you, this game would not have been possible.

Developer - Sean Brown - Sean has worked in the game industry for almost 16 years, many of them for Mr. B. Games as a salesmen, co-designer, graphic artist, marketing director, developer, and warehouse manager (many at the same time) since 2006. He has worked on Alien Uprising, Spurs, Realm of Heroes, Zothren Invasion, Posthuman, Days of Ire, Madness at Midnight, WarQuest, Liars Dice, Prospectus, Helionox, and Clockwork Kingdom, Hellenica, and Vintage Racers as a designer, developer and/or graphic artist for Mr. B. Games as well as the following titles via graphic art, development or co-design work while at Eagle Games: Age of Steam, Age of Empires III, Attack Deluxe, Baltimore and Ohio, Brass, Defenders of the Realm and all of its expansions, Defenders Battlefields, Empires Builder Expansion, I'm the Boss TCG, Incan Gold, New England Railways, Pirate Dice, Railways of the World and all of its expansions, Roll through the Ages, Through the Ages, Tumblin Dice, and Wizards Brew.

Sales and Production - Mr. B. Games - Mr. B is a small publishing company started by Sean Brown in 2005 to publish his own game designs, that has grown to include 4 studios and worldwide sales.

Art & Graphics - Mike and Irene and half a dozen others who did videos, minis and art for us along the way!

If you need us, please contact us via our customer service CS email.  (mrbgames.cs(at symbol)gmail).

If for any reason, you find that after the project has ended, you need to cancel, we will work with you to best make that happen. Email our CS for help (mrbgames.cs(at symbol)gmail). If you cancel within 30 days of the end of the project, we are able to do a complete refund via the payments system (including fees!) After 30 days for an additional month, we are able to do a 90% refund (less funding and CC processing fees) via paypal. For a refund request after 60 days, we ask you email us at mrbgames.cs (at) gmail.com and we will try to work with you for a partial refund if possible, but you will be responsible for return shipping. If for any reason you feel you have a missing item or damaged item, please email us at mrbgames.cs (at) gmail.com with photos of damage, your backer number, backer name, and complete address and we will work to replace the missing or damaged items ASAP. TERMS

The following Terms are accepted by you, the backer when you pledge, so we can ensure smooth delivery for all. Pledging to one of our projects is NOT a pre-order - it is a very welcomed show of support to a small company helping us produce a new product. Your data is always safe as we use a 3rd party service to secure it and contact you about projects - you may opt out of this contact at the bottom of each email (we send these about 4x a year - during the launch of a KS campaign usually). Surveys not filled in after 2 months of final delivery (from the "we are shipping" update) or missing reward requests after 2 months of your game shipment will be treated as a no reward pledge. Please help us get you your rewards by emailing our CS with any issues you may have in a timely manner and filling in your survey in a timely manner. Watch for updates on all shipping statuses. All our major communications will be via Updates. Our Privacy Policy is posted on our website and by pledging to one of our campaigns you agree to its terms and conditions which are compliant around the world for a USA based company mailing pledge rewards to its backers.

If your reward goes missing due to a bad address, pledging from a country we listed as unshippable/restricted, or failure to pick up the reward on your end, contact our CS and we can arrange a replacement but will need to collect shipping again. If this is an error on our end we will reship at no cost to you.
Missing reward requests should be sent to our CS no later than 30 days after your shipping wave update, as tracking numbers become difficult to track after 30 days. Help us help deliver for you :) Please provide pictures of damages if your reward arrives damaged and try your local carrier first - then our CS to help if you cannot get a resolution from the carrier re: damage.

By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look and materials of the project and hence the rewards, are subject to change and may differ from what is presented while the campaign was active. If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the possibility of a general release later. We will always do our best to provide exactly what was pictured, but sometimes small details change or a card is removed and replaced with another, ect. The above campaign depicts our plan, but all plans can change at a factory level. Pledge with confidence, as we rarely alter our contents, and to date have only updated or added from development. We do reserve the right to alter the final design if needed and all ideas presented are not final. The final reward sent to you will be considered final.

Risks and challenges

With every project there are risks, but we hope that our past track record in publishing, as well as Sean's design and development work at his previous publishing jobs will put everyone's minds at ease. Mr. B. Games has delivered on 24 of its 26 Crowdfunding projects on time or early with only 2 being late (none more than 2 months). We are not new to the industry and have been making games in some capacity since 2001. With our previous experiences we can pool from the 15+ years of lessons (both good and bad) to ensure a smooth, and accurate production and delivery. We hope that you will help support us in our publishing efforts, and thank you in advance for your confidence in Mr. B. Games!:)
