Reviews & Interviews

The following quotes are from previews with reviewers who have been able to try the Tabletop Simulator mod (which you can try as well for free). We will be following up with physical copies with all of them in the spring.

  • "This is how you adapt a videogame to board gaming!" "This is one of the coolest looking board game-based leveling-up systems for items I have ever seen." Unlike many many games in this genre, there is something a little bit more with the dice rolling. The whole thing comes together really brilliantly." "...very very impressed by the game!" Rahdo ~ Rahdo Runs Through
  • It 100% feels like the videogame. You always feel like, ‘Let’s just do one more quest, or one more piece of gear, or one more dungeon before we call it a night.’ It totally has that pull you in value.” Mark Streed ~ The Dice Tower
  • "Just one more quest! Just one more Level! This is how playing Skyrim feels." ~ Matthew Jude
  • "I felt like I was playing a video game, but in board game form--in the best kind of way." ~ Paula Deming
  • "Replicating the aesthetic of Skyrim is no easy feat - but the Modiphius tabletop version makes us feel like the skooma-swigging, spark-slinging, Stormcloak sympathizers of old!" Becca Scott, Jake Michels ~ Good Time Society
  • "It's a very excellent, excellent game." Michael Wright ~ Unfiltered Gamer
  • "...this game fully encapsulates the grand scale that is Skyrim." Matt Sall ~ Bell of Lost Souls
  • "A solid experience and one that I do recommend." Alex Radcliffe ~ BoardGameCo
  • "...really found the ruleset to click naturally." Adam Smith ~ Rolling Solo
  • "It's got me very excited." Anthony ~ How it Plays
  • "Each time I play it, the storyline changes massively, and I'm looking forward to the whole thing coming out so I can...commit to a massive campaign with some friends."  ~ Danny ESO
  • "...it absolutely evokes a lot of what is great about board games - that sense of exploration and adventure."  Mark Dainty ~ Not Bored Gaming
  • "There's a lot to it, and there's a lot that opens up. This feels like [Skyrim]."  Jeremy Howard ~ (contributor to) Man Vs. Meeple

Shipping & Production

NOTE ABOUT VAT: If you are in the UK, USA, Canada, EU or Australia you will not need to pay VAT or DUTY on your rewards as they will be shipped internally from within your country.

We are negotiating with a dozen different languages partners from as far apart as Japan and Russia to Brazil and Germany to ensure this game reaches fans in the most possible local editions. Due to the immense amount of work bringing together so many partners it's not possible to include those translated editions of the game in this Gamefound project. This project will only offer the english edition. We do hope that before the end of the project we can confirm which languages have been agreed however each of these partners will be running their own pre-order campaigns. Each partner will have access to the same Gamefound exclusive content for their own pre-orders, and will get the same unlocked content for all the boxes. We expect the translation work to take some time due to the huge amount of narrative content in the game we cannot confirm when these pre-orders will take place but delivery of local language editions will be several months at least after the english edition.

Risks and challenges

Whilst we have successfully completed and shipped seven Kickstarter (Achtung! Cthulhu RPG, Mutant Chronicles RPG, Matt Leacock's Thunderbirds board game, Infinity RPG, Conan RPG, John Carter RPG, Kung Fu Panda RPG, Siege of the Citadel board game) projects, as well as normal retail launches for the Dune: Adventures in the Imperium RPG, Fallout Roleplaying Game, Fallout Wasteland Warfare and The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms miniatures games, amongst many others, we have experienced delays on projects. As a result we delayed the launch of this project to ensure as much as possible was completed prior to launch to reduce the chances of any delays. That includes all game development and playtesting completed, all graphic design and layout complete and approved, all tooling begun with the factory and samples being approved. We are still tweaking some graphic elements - for example, making some alterations to improve colourblind-friendly elements, making icons more legible, improving artwork and are allowing time for backers to preview the rulebook and assets to contribute errata. The rulebook will be one of the final items to be completed in order to include all updated components and errata.

We expect the game to go into production in December, allowing for any final tweaks to print files, and are allowing until May to ship out of China. Currently, the factory expects to be ready to ship after Chinese New Year in March based on our current forecasted production quantities. This means we have two months allowance for delays in production. Assuming the stock ships in May, this would be expected to reach local fulfilment centres about two months later or July based on current shipping timelines, and would then commence shipping. We have stated August as a fulfilment date to allow a further month for shipping delays.

There's no hiding from the fact that sea freight between China and the rest of the world is very problematic and costly at the moment. Even so, there are no viable alternatives for a game of this scale to be made outside of China. The costs of shipping containers have become astronomical. We have factored this increased shipping cost into margins and MSRP of the game. There is a risk that additional outbreaks of COVID-19 could impose strict lockdowns in China affecting production timelines or shipping. In the USA there is a serious backlog of containers at the ports - currently, there are an unprecedented 100+ ships outside the port of LA waiting to offload cargo and the shortages of truck drivers in the US and the lack of sufficient rail depots means there can be big delays getting stock across the country. We would hope the backlog would reduce by the time we ship, but there is a risk this could get worse.

Summary of Key Risks:
  • COVID-19 outbreak reduces or shuts down factory production capacity
  • COVID-19 outbreak reduces ports capacity and delays shipments to rest of world
  • Brexit-based or US port backlogs delay entry of stock into UK or US regions (or internal shipping)
  • COVID-19 outbreaks in any region shut down local fulfilment and delay delivery
