It is with heavy hearts that we come to you today with the deeply sad news that we’ve come to the end of the line. After eight years of making games, Grimord Games is entering into insolvency and immediately ceasing all activities.

Before we explain, we wanted to start with an apology. We’re sorry that we couldn’t find a way to make this work, and despite our very best efforts, we couldn’t find a way to see our final project to its end. Despite trying to build Grimlord Games into a long-term, viable business, immense external factors have led us to this unfortunate and sad ending.

How did it come to this?

Our business was fine in the years before the pandemic. Margins were tight, but that was ok as we were in it for the long haul, but the devastating effects of that worldwide event created an environment that many businesses are still struggling with. The impact of the pandemic saw us incur significant rising costs across all business areas, including but not limited to production, warehousing, shipping and distribution. Of particular note was the freight shipping cost, which increased by c.900% at its peak.

All of our forecasting and funds raised via crowdfunding took place pre-pandemic, but we found ourselves having to produce and deliver those projects in a post-pandemic environment. This, coupled with a severe weakening of the British Pound due to Brexit, has led to where we are today.

What state is Village Attacks: Grim Dynasty in?

A great deal of time and expense has been spent on the project. Artwork, development and pre-production are all complete. It was at the point when mass production was to begin that we had to stop and accept that the project could go no further.

Was anything done to avoid this situation?

We have explored multiple avenues to remedy the situation. We reduced running costs to their bare minimum, generating additional funds from every source we could. The biggest opportunity was selling Grimlord to another company that could continue with the project/s. We entered into talks with two separate companies on two different occasions. As a professional courtesy, we will not be naming these companies, as their actual identity has no relation to the eventual outcome.

Negotiations with Company A began in July 2021. A sale price was agreed to, and the sale moved forward for the next eight months. But sadly, Company A decided they no longer wanted to proceed in February of 2022, so we parted ways.

The potential sale to Company B was much more recent, beginning in September 2022. No sale price was discussed this time, but Company B was interested in several strategies to save the business. But despite exploring several options, Company B could not see a way forward, and negotiations ceased in January 2023.

During these negotiations, we delivered as much as possible, namely our Everrain project. This was greatly slowed down by a VAT issue caused by Brexit, where we found ourselves in a situation where we had paid a considerable amount of VAT to both the EU and the UK. Getting this refunded by the UK government was a long, drawn-out affair that took ten months to resolve. The resolution of this situation finally allowed us to deliver the Everrain to the US backers.

Why didn’t you update the backers about this?

We were always exploring options to remedy the situation and had hoped that our next update would be a positive one where we could discuss a solution that had been found. Unfortunately, the weeks rolled into months, and before long, it had been a year since the last update.

What happens now?

FRP Advisory is the insolvency firm that will take control of the company. Their mandate is to sell business assets and distribute the proceeds of these sales to the creditors, i.e. anyone who is out of pocket due to this situation. Each of you will be contacted by FRP regarding this and instructed on how to proceed.
