Panoramica del progetto

Have you ever dreamed of shooting cannonballs at your friends like there was no tomorrow? Well, then this is the game for you! Cannonades is a fast-paced, easy-to-pick-up, chaotic, fun little game. Oh, and it’s cheap too: it costs the same as a regular deck of cards. Let’s take a closer look:
In short, each player is the captain of a fleet of pirate ships, and their goal is to sink all the opponents’ ships – with cannonballs, of course – and to remain the only pirate still afloat. The deck consists of 2 type of cards: ships and cannonades, each in 1 of 6 different colors. During your turn you can add ships to your fleet or try sinking those of your friends by shooting cannonballs at them. Simple? Yes! The game is explained in 30 seconds but finding and developing a strategy to have the upper hand might not be so easy!

The deck is composed entirely of 2 types of cards: Ships and Cannonades. Both types of cards are divided into 6 colors, based on their “strength” and “rarity”: ranging from green (weakest) to red (strongest). All the cards are textless. Each color is also identified by an unique Clan icon.

At the beginning of your turn, draw cards equal to 5 minus the number of ships in your fleet (e.g. if you have 3 ships in play, draw 2 cards). During your turn you may take up to 4 actions: you can repeat the same action more than once, but always keeping in mind that you can only take 4 actions total. You may even strategically take no action and «skip» your turn (players usually do this to save resources or to wait for the perfect moment to strike). At the end of your turn, you must discard the cards you have in excess in your hand (if you have any, the limit of cards in hand is 5).

- ADD a new ship to your fleet: put a ship card from your hand into play face down, so that none of the other players know its color nor strength. The maximum number of ships you are allowed to have on the table at any time is 4.
- SHOOT an opponent’s ship: choose a cannonade card from your hand and use it to touch an opponent’s ship. That player must turn that ship face up: if the colors of the ship and of the cannonade match, it means that you have successfully sunk their ship. If they are different, instead, the ship is “damaged” and remains in play face up (discard the cannonade card).
- DRAW: you can discard a card from your hand and draw a new one from the deck. If you discard a card with the “Captain” on it, draw 2 cards from the deck instead.
- BOARD A SHIP: you can “throw” one of your damaged ships (face up) at an opponent’s ship as if it were a cannonade, following the same rules: if the colors match, you have sunk that ship and both cards are discarded; if they don’t you damage their ship and discard yours.

Some ships are stronger than others, and if damaged or destroyed they will not go away without leaving their mark! Ship cards may have 0, 1, or 2 “Captain’s Grin” symbols on them. When a ship with 1 Captain’s Grin is sunk or damaged, its controller can yell "VENDETTA!" and choose one of the following effects:
- draw a card from the deck,
- have the player who shot their ship discard a card,
- choose a face down ship of that player and turn it face up.
If a ship has the Captain’s double Grin instead, its “revenge” effect activates twice: when it is damaged and when it is sunk (if it had stayed afloat after the first cannonade). And before you ask: Yes, the effect is also activated when it is turned face up by a Grin effect of another ship, and yes, if it is sunk at the first strike, you play both the "revenge" effects.

The Glitch Limited Edition, is a special version of Cannonades that differs from the original due to its artworks. The game is the same and involves the same cards, rules, stretch goals, etc. but is distinguished by its unconventional illustrations. Mistakes, absolutely blasted colors, overprints, and other unwanted printing errors make the headlines here, making this edition a feast for the eyes and a product sure to be collectible and boastful. We don't post many images of this version because we want them to be a surprise for backers who get a copy, just as we did for the Glitch edition of Entropia.

As suggested by some backers, I have made some improvements to the game so that it can be enjoyed by a wider audience. The first of them is the addition of clan icons that helps distinguish the color of the ship/cannon card to those who suffer from color blindness. I am designing them these days, but I post a small preview here. The second new feature is the addition of the solitaire mode: Essentially, I developed a scenario (at scalable difficulty) where with your fleet you face an enemy admiral, sometimes supported by "bombardier" ships that will give you a lot of trouble. I particularly like this mode because it does not distort the game, in fact playing alone remains identical to the multiplayer game, it requires the same level of strategy and maybe a little more, because yes, the admiral ship makes "automatic" decisions, but finding a strategy to defeat it and stay "afloat" at the same time will not be easy at all!
