Monster

The Snowman

Temporary, fragile, bitter and yearning for just a little bit longer, The Snowman is the personification of knowing that you don’t have much time left. However, they are determined to enjoy what time they have left, and drag other people into having fun with them.

The Headless

Different, yet desperately wanting to be normal, The Headless embodies those who which that people would just leave them alone and stop pointing out their differences. Inspired by classic tales such as ‘The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow’ and ‘The Green Ribbon’, the Headless explores what it means to be different, and how that can affect someone.

The Pegasus

Inspired by the ‘not like other girls’ phase that many young women go through, the Pegasus is a representation of feeling different, and acting like you’re better for it, despite you really not being that unique. There are many reasons that people, particularly young women, go through that and the Pegasus aims to capture that, whether it’s struggling with your sexuality, being unable to find where you belong or plain and simple misogyny.

The Tin Man

Hardworking, focused and barreling towards a burnout, the Tin Man personifies the idea of focusing on a task, be it chopping wood or schoolwork, to the detriment of everything else. The Tin Man is that kid who is a honour student with no friends, simply because they don’t have time for them. They are so focused on their goal, other aspects of their life suffer.

The Deep One

Arrogant, family-oriented and desperately wanting to believe they are better than their fellows, the Deep One is the representation of a golden child who has been raised to believe they are inherently superior. The downside of having such a supportive, close-knit family are the high expectations that the Deep One must meet. This arrogance combined with the complicated family dynamic can easily end in disaster.

The Shikome

Loyal to a fault, desperate for the affection of their friends and confused as to what the big deal is with romantic relationships, the Shikome is the epitome of someone who cares deeply about their friends, whether that friendship is equal or otherwise. They would do anything for their friends, but find themselves being pushed to the side as their friends' priorities change.

The Swarm

Obsessive, part of a crowd and wishing to stay like that no matter what, the Swarm defines themselves by a group they are a part of. This is represented through the Hive, your depiction of which can vary from character to character. Sometimes it may be an actual hive of bees that you can somehow communicate with, other times, it may be a fan club or church with bland, faceless members that you otherwise struggle to distinguish. Either way, the Swarm highlights how many teenagers, in search of their identity, choose to define themselves by a group and the dangers of doing so.

The Grendel

Tired, desperately wanting some peace and accepting their status as a monster, the Grendel accepts that they are an outcast, but blames others for their status as that. They are deeply angry and bitter towards a world that attacked them and outcasted them for biting back. Only by finding fellow outcasts and learning that not everyone sees them as a monster can they grow.

Men

The Maiden

Under-appreciated, giving their all and desperately hoping that someone will give even a little in return, the Maiden is the personification of someone who is kind and lets others walk all over them. Inspired by the ‘Guide’ present in many classic fairytales, the Maiden is constantly helping others on their quest to find a happy ending, all the while hoping someone will help them find theirs. They are defined by their relationships with others.

The Reflection

The Reflection longs to be liked by their peers. They are desperately lonely and prepared to do anything to fit it. Even changing everything about themselves -their personality, their looks and their opinions- at the drop of the hat. All to earn the attention and affection of others. They tend to be habitual liars, saying everything and anything to fit in. However, sooner or later their lies will catch up to them and when it does, the fallout will be spectacular.

The Investigator

Seemingly icy and logical to a fault, the Investigator copes with the terror and change that comes with being a teenager by hiding behind an facade. This facade is that of a incredibly intelligent and well-read investigator, one who treats other with a cold and cruel derision. However, beneath this facade is an incredibly insecure teenager, terrified of being seen as earnest or passionate about anything.

The Elite

Egotistical and distant, the Elite is a rich kid whose status has doomed them to fail from the start. After all, if they aren’t given the chance to experience failure and being told no when they’re young, what hope do they have as an adult? Add that to a sense of superiority and power that they can use, but don’t really own, and if they’re not careful the Elite can lose everything before they’ve even started.

The Empath

Overwhelmed and tired, the Empath is someone who feels everything and is terrified of taking up space in others lives. Even if they are more than happy to help others take up space. Whether they are a willing martyr or simply very bad at setting boundaries and standing up for themselves may be something even they don’t know.

The Secretary

As sharp as the pencil they keep in their hair, the Secretary is a highly intelligent and competent person laser-focused on helping someone else succeed. This isn’t out of the kindness of their heart, but rather because they get something out of it, be it something supernatural in nature or because they plan to be by their boss’ side at the top.

The Auteur

Egotistical, tragically talented and difficult to work with, the Auteur is a incredible artist with an ego to match. This ego makes them extremely frustrating to be around, something which can enforce their sense of superiority as they become convinced that no one truly understands them. It is only by learning that the people around them are just as interesting, engaging and talented as them can they grow to be more bearable.

The Pimpernel

Privileged, possibly well-intentioned but invariably more focussed on looking good rather than actually doing good, the Pimpernel is an influencer-type obsessed with the public perception of them. They may be an actual social media influencer, a socialite or simply a popular kid at the school. It all depends on setting.
