The game takes place in the exciting new fantasy world of Draconicus – a world of enchantment, adventure and dragon magic.

Players take on the roles of adventurers who have been commanded to go on a quest, and journey all across the island of Draconica. While completing their quest, they must make sure they stay alive, build their funds, maintain sufficient provisions for their journey, and build up their magic power. They must also develop their character, become better fighters, enhance their home village, and secure better means of transportation.

Each quest forms a story that players explore, while racing to finish their quest before all other players.

The elements of the quest form tasks that players must perform in order to fulfill their objectives, and win the game.

Influences are marked on the gameboard, showing all players who controls which faction, and who controls the overarching influence category.

As players try to complete their quest, they must travel to the quest location, and discover which artifacts are crucial to the quest, while securing the necessary influences. The other players will try to foil their attempts.

Players bid for actions on the Action Board, which cycles through the seasons, each round forming a calendar year with a different focus for each season.

To complete the quest and win the game, a player must fill out their Quest Map on their Player Board: collect all four quest artifacts, and secure four necessary influences. They must then choose a Complete Quest action on the Action Board while meeting all the quest requirements, and return to their home village in triumph, to receive their accolades.
