Universal Special Rules

The core of Ravaged Star’s unit design are Universal Special Rules, standardized abilities that can be found across all three factions. Unique abilities are rare (making them all the more exciting), ensuring both players can easily understand what a unit can do, even if they’ve never played that faction before. Unit Cards

The Ravaged Star tabletop wargame uses cards to keep track of your unit’s vital statistics and abilities. Each unit, whether it’s a single Commander or an entire squad of Core models, each unit offers something unique to your army. You can see sample cards starting with the Gorkog in the next section below.

Dice & Percentages

We’re using D10s for Ravaged Star. Why is that important? So players, whether they are new to wargaming or have racked up hundreds of battles across hundreds of battlefields, will always know the odds. Need a 5+ to hit that Immari Infantry unit? Well, that means 1, 2, 3 & 4 aren’t going to cut it (40% to fail, 60% to succeed). The math is so easy, you don’t even have to think about it.

Activating in a Fog of War

Activating your units in Ravaged Star means never knowing which unit will attack next. Both players add a token for each of their units to a bag and then draw one randomly to see which unit activates next. Each activation token has a symbol representing one of the four types of units: Commander, Core, Elite and Support. Have two Core units that haven’t activated? You can choose which one to activate if one of your Core tokens is drawn.

Boost Your Units

In addition to adding tokens for all your units in the bag, both players also have a small number of boost tokens thrown in as well. If you draw one of your own Boost tokens, you can activate any of your units that hasn’t activated, but while taking advantage of one of their powerful Boost abilities. Boost abilities may make your unit’s existing weapons or stats stronger or grant completely new abilities. Choosing the right unit to boost can change the course of a game. Will you punish a wounded unit with a powerful attack? Or will you allow one of your own units to pull victory from the jaws of defeat?

Malevolent and with a grotesque army seemingly without end, the Gorkog are a collection of monsters serving the will of Nevirr, the God of Wrath. Nevirr has spent thousands of years perfecting his “soldiers,” breeding, experimenting and splicing together the deadliest of species from the planets of Ankarr and Gorkog V. The genocide of the Immari was a masterstroke on his part, luring the Vanguard and Immari militaries into a quagmire on Ankarr while the rest of his forces slaughtered billions of dwarves.

Null, the Hordemaster, is a Commander for the Gorkog. Despite his menacing appearance, he’s a masterful tactician, sporting the Inspiring and Bloodthirst Auras as well as the unique Improvise and Adapt ability, which lets one of his Core units activate a second time.

The Gorkog Fleshseekers are a Core unit of 12 models, meaning while they have much less individual Health than Null (for example), they make up for it in numbers. Fleshseekers can be boosted to call for reinforcements, as you never know what horrors may lurk beneath your feet when they are around.

The massive Macidon is a tanky support of the Gorkog, sporting both the Armored and Heavy Impact universal special rules. The Macidon is also good against heavily armored targets, his attacks ignoring the defense of Armored targets on rolls of 8+.

The Ankarrian Plasma-Spitters are an Elite Gorkog ranged squad whose boost options are all about punishing targets. You can either inflict more damage by adding Reaping to their Plasma Cannons or better armor penetration with Piercing.

The dwarves of the Immari system lost their entire civilian population when the Vanguard encountered the Gorkog on Ankarr and the Immari king, sent his entire military, the Engineers of War (EoW) to help fight them. No sooner had the EoW left the system that another group of Gorkog attacked, slaughtering the king and his people. The EoW returned victorious to a dead system. That was 71 years ago and the members of EoW are still recovering. They have had little contact with the Vanguard or anyone else outside their system and have been singularly focused with rebuilding their civilization.

The Immari Commander Colonel Beauburron Trax wields a hammer and a pistol, allowing him to get some shots in should his target not quite yet be in melee range. His Aura of Bloodthirst pairs well with all melee-inclined allies, of which the Immari have just a few.

The shock troops of the EoW, the Immari Infantry are just what you need if you are looking for a Core unit with some respectable ranged damage. The boys in beards get into trouble? Boost them to Go to Ground or Call for Reinforcements.

The Immari War-Mech Division’s PL-16 Scout Mech is a Support with weapons for days, whether you want to perforate, explode or run down your target. While boosted you can choose to give them a free move and Target Lock or the never not fun Multi-Fire.

The Elite Forgestrike Shieldwardens only have one attack, but when your only attack is “hammer,” what else do you need? Boost them to get them moving with Swift (and Impact) or let them hunker down with Armored and Parry.

The Veil-Touched are mostly corrupted humans (among other monstrosities), commanded by Lord Davicus, a former Vanguard commander who led an expedition across the mysterious Veil, a shimmering anomaly on the edge of known space. Davicus and his people returned 60 years later, forever changed. They now serve Strahk, god of fear, who was imprisoned on Asalia, the planet on the other side of the Veil. Davicus celebrated his glorious return by attacking his former people by bombarding their homeworld from orbit.

Lord Gustavar is a Veil-Touched Commander who can not only fly but has a unique ability that makes other flyers able to charge farther. He’ll also straight up kill you with his sword (or claw). Just saying.

The Dominiran are a standard Veil-Touched Core unit with ranged and melee attacks who can be boosted to call for reinforcements or to add Reaping to their rifles.

The VTASV “Apocalypse” is a brutal Veil-Touched Support unit, sporting multiple attacks each with useful universal special rules such as Anti-Armor, Terrifying and Piercing. Boost it to stack attacks (and effects) with Multi-Fire or to give its cannon the deadly Reaping.

The Asalian Executioners, a Veil-Touched Elite unit only have the one attack, but they excel with it. Proper servants of Strahk, they have the Fear universal special rule and can be boosted to basically be more deadly, regardless of which option you choose.
