Greetings everyone! It’s time for a big update, so put your big hunter pants on, fill your biggest cup with your strongest coffee or beverage of choice, and let’s get right into it.
TheBadWitch is in Malmö
First, we have a special guest visiting us in Malmö! With his charming personality, he’s defrosting our cold Swedish hearts. I’m talking about TheBadWitch, a Beast community superstar, comment mastermind, and an amazing Beast player! Yesterday, we did a surprise live stream on Twitch. While this was completely unannounced, we wanted to test our media equipment and get more comfortable in front of the camera.
We played a regular 3-player game, with Assar controlling the spooky Mara, playing against TheBadWitch as Helga, and Aron as Iona. We started the game by stating “This is just a trial, no need to play seriously” and around five seconds later it evolved into the most tryhard, sweaty, elite gaming session of Beast ever. Guided by the unfathomable wisdom of TheBadWitch, the hunters managed to slay the foul Beast on the final day of the contract. We will post the full gameplay session on our YouTube channel once our masterful Albin has done some editing on it!

Discord
We will do many more streams and community events coming up. Sometimes, the behind-the-scenes stuff doesn’t reach the wider audiences on Gamefound and social media, so if you want to be in the nitty-gritty of everything Beast and Studio Midhall, why not join our discord?
Updated Timeline
We promised you an updated timeline, and here it is! Unfortunately, with the updated timeline, we are also announcing some delays. The Pledge Manager is still not open: we have everything ready, including shipping prices and new assets, but there are some things we want to fix with the original Gamefound campaign that requires further assistance from the Gamefound team before we go live.
Shattered Isles has come a long way and is nearing its completion. This is our lovechild and we want everything to be as great as it possibly can be. To achieve that, playtesting is taking longer than initially expected, and this is the main reason why we are pushing the dates back! We want you to feel all the pride and love we’ve poured into the Shattered Isles and The Great Hunt when you get the game.
Also, a friendly reminder that you will still be able to choose languages and either miniatures or acrylic standees for your free followers gift once the Pledge Manager opens. The updated timeline doesn’t change that!
Beast Digital Festival
We want to engage much more with you, our amazing backers! That’s why we are going to hold the first-ever Beast Digital Festival! The festival will feature developer matches and a live-streamed global Beast vs Hunter event in which anyone can participate. Choose which side you want to join, and then you play one match of Beast. After all games have concluded amongst all the different players, one side will emerge as the victor, unfolding a greater story about the future of the Shattered Isles and The Northern Expanse.
But we want the festival to have so many more things on the menu than just gameplay! We want to do live painting with Aron, and a Q&A session, but more importantly, we want your input on what you want to see! Anything you can think of, let us know and we’ll do our best to incorporate it into the festival!
We are going to France!
Our amazing French partner Don’t Panic Games invited us to Cannes Festival International Des Jeux, a boardgame convention taking place between 23-25 February. We are really glad to be joining and hope to see some of your lovely faces over there!
Playtesting & Development
We are hard at work getting Shattered Isles and The Great Hunt to be the most amazing experience ever. All characters are nearly complete and the 5 player contract is looking better than ever! Playing around with two Beasts and several Hunters on a very small map brings a ton of interaction and fun moments to the table.
We have ordered samples from the factory to Malmö on dry-erase minimaps, and all of the miniatures for Beast Core Game, and The Great Hunt, as well as the improved settler meeples for the Beast Core Game. We are expecting them to arrive next week! Looking forward to getting to show it all to you!
The Great Hunt
The biggest thing we are playtesting right now is The Great Hunt. It comes in the form of a book, in which each spread of pages features its own unique mechanics and spin on the game. Each page also features different end conditions, and depending on how you play and the choices you make in the game, will lead you to another page and story. The tale of The Feathered King and Esmeria is yours to tell, and your actions will determine the outcome.
We are having so much fun designing all the plot twists, designing gameplay that fits into the overarching story, and creating such a unique and weird take on Beast. What started as a simple project turned into something very ambitious, but we do believe we have something very special on hand that we can’t wait for you to get your hands on.
New Items and Beastly Talents
Another nearly complete item on the list (pun intended) is the new cards. We have almost finished balancing them while trying to create new interactions and potentiate the ones we feel were underplayed in the base game. This is a preview of the current Items and Beastly Talents (remember that they are all still subject to change, and much of the artwork is not finished):
And that brings us to the next point: we are still missing your input on the community-based extra Item and Beastly Talent we unlocked as a stretch goal during the campaign! Sooo why not do it now? We want to hear your ideas and suggestions in the comment box. What would you guys want to see?
