NEW BACKERS: All products are relevant for New Backers except for the 2nd Edition Update Kit.  It depends on your desired player count. You can also get advice in Discord. 

Veteran Backers: We recommend only picking up the Update Kit and the New Expansions listed below. Original Expansions like ECC, TP1, TP2 are not recommended if you already own them as they did not change much. Also you will not need the new separate Faction Player Sets, unless you want to add an additional player to your game or still need to pick up OKW, or want a 3rd Axis faction. 

We are very excited to offer these additions to the CoH Board Game System! Each one was designed to dramatically expand and improve upon the 1st Edition Collections of Veteran Backers and be relevant and fun for new backers. In particular we highly recommend the Lost Brigades System for all Veteran Backers, while the Legacy Map Pack is essential for New Backers that want to experience all 40 new and revised mission setups.

The Lost Brigades Expansion is special because it allows players to incorporate these new units into their faction's core units, without requiring a Commander Card call-in. Alternatively the 60 building board extender tiles offer a play-mode that allows players to add units from across their entire collection into their faction's building boards.

Lost Brigades vehicles also emphasize the new Assault rules found in the second edition. This can dramatically flush out a faction's options and strategic decisions from early on in the game. Each Lost Brigades vehicle also comes with two commanders that allow players to further specialize and upgrade that vehicle, or alternatively they can field the core Lost Brigades vehicle and choose an entirely different commander to gain access to an even wider range of units.

The 2nd Edition Solo and Cooperative Expansion is a completely revised product drawing on the strengths of the 1st Edition but now with a much more intelligent A.I to play against or on a human player's team.  The A.I. now secures resource and victory control points like a human player allowing for standard victory conditions rather than the previous abstract round limit of 1st Edition.  Players can also use the 250 high quality unit tiles to play in multiple Fog of War modes including the 45 minute Fog of War Lite Mode for quick games. 

Terrain Pack 3 is currently in development but will transform the battlefield with different light and heavy cover miniatures and mega structures to be chosen by the community over the course of the KickStarter. The current choices are a set of double hex factory models, multiple bridges or a 5 hex super-bunker! Including 40 Light and Heavy Cover Models! (Not shown above is the other light cover model - Hedgerows with a wooden fence. ) TP3 introduces Destructible cover similar to the video games, this is not only a fun mode, but it also reduces setup time. 

The Legacy Map Pack is particularly key for new backers to allow them to play on all 40 missions. These are the original beautiful maps from 1st edition but revised for better tactics, more balanced openings, better pathing, and more useful on map cover. While still useful for Veteran Backers the Legacy Map Pack is not essential for Veteran Backers and more of a quality of life improvement since the 2nd Edition Update kit provides map conversion tiles that transform your 1st Edition maps into the improved 2nd Edition versions. Also includes revised and improved World Builder Map Tiles for total customization possibilities.

(Required to play on maps that combine with the new Moro River and Ardennes Forest Map Boards included in the 2nd Edition Update Kit and 2nd Edition Core Set. )

Recommended for NEW BACKERS that want to increase their player count or add new factions. (The 2nd Edition Core Set includes just the US and Wehrmacht Factions.)The new Faction Player Sets  now include all of the components to add an additional player, like command cubes, dice, infantry trays and more. To expand the 2 Player Core Set to include more players (up to 8 players) grab a Faction Player Set for each additional player.  Not recommended for Veteran Backers unless you still need OKW or you want to increase your player count. 

SOVIET: Extremely mobile core infantry allows for immense early pressure and options for aggression.  While your units are versatile, plan ahead with what commanders and units you want to transition to, with many of your options being the strongest in the game for their cost. While your commanders are flexible, look to combine your core unit choices with a surprising commander combination to throw your opponent off guard.

BRITISH: Look to make up your lack of firepower by taking full advantage of your durability.  Focus on maintaining critical areas and slowly build up your forces to force your opponent into futile aggression.  Carefully select your commander and your heavy tanks as they offer a different style to meet your needs to defeat anything your opponent may field.

 OKW: Plan the best locations for your forward spawning buildings, weighing the risk versus reward.  Your early infantry can deal with any situation even though you lack weapon teams.  Your expensive tier 3 units all have a huge impact when they hit the board, so just adapt your unit and commander choices to apply early pressure to buy you time to make a big play to seal the victory.

 USA: Lean on your firepower and mobile weapon teams to focus early on critical points on the map. crushing your enemy where they are weakest.  Transition to arguably the most mobile, versatile and inexpensive core tanks to secure those points into the late game. Look to rely on your commanders to focus on your strengths to exploit your enemies weaknesses.

WEHRMACHT: Overwhelm your opponents with your strength and powerful infantry, able to lockdown the map early.  Use your mobile light vehicles to adjust to your opponent and bring support to where you need it.  Your elite core tanks along with your commander call ins can destroy any pesky problems you may run into.

Popular Expansions from the First Edition return with updated 2nd Edition Commanders.(Not recommended for Veteran Backers that already own.)

 The most popular and essential Terrain Pack from First Edition; TP1 provides the most bang for your buck by transforming the map boards with beautiful and functional building models, satisfying control point capture flags and constructible field defenses pre-stretched from the first campaign. If you were to choose one expansion for your Core Set we recommend Terrain Pack 1.

 Includes the massive Cathedral model with both intact and destroyed Towers. Revised Bunkers are now more functional with infantry squad trays, and includes the bonus 2 Destroyed Buildings (8 total), allowing you to transform and destroy the battlefield. Now with updated and more functional bunkers. 

 Featuring some of the biggest models in the system, the ECC has been updated and revised for better balance and fun.  The Elite Commanders Collection brings in special Vehicles and Commanders into the board game, each with a unique niche and role that can transform the way a faction operates. Pre-stretched from First Edition with bonus Firefly Tank Destroyers and early game Stuarts. (Not recommended for Veteran Backers as all updated ECC  Commanders will be included in your 2nd Edition Update Kit. )

Elite Commanders or Lost Brigades? Tough choice. The ECC has more vehicles and they are particularly awesome vehicles, with a huge set of excellent commanders, but the Lost Brigades allows for additional play modes and expands your faction building boards. If you are only getting one, we would slightly recommend Lost Brigades over ECC. 

 Mini packs that pack a punch, by dramatically expanding tactical options and introducing iconic and powerful units, vehicles and special commanders. These can be added individually during checkout or at discounted bundle price for all three. Not recommended for Veteran Backers that already own the mini packs as their updated commanders are included in your 2nd Edition Update Kit. 

Pathfinder Pack: 2 Commanders, US Patfhinder Infantry all forward spawn and deployment with unique abilities. Elefant, the toughest, biggest tank destroyer in the game. Slow but heavily armored, gain a free spawn with the commander unlock. 

Eastern Reinforcements Pack: Deploy your Soviet veterans from the eastern front to shore up your defenses outside Leningrad with 4 powerful commanders that utilize the sniper miniatures and sniper focused Commander abilities.  Deploy the massive and versatile ISU-152's. that are able to switch between AP or HE damage. The ISU-152's provide long range support while having the armor to soak up damage. 

Stug Assault Pack: 7 Commanders! Bonus Upgrade Dice. This pack introduces 2 Werhmacht and 2 OKW StUG tanks that dramatically improve these factions' mid game with these armored tier 2 vehicles. Along with Commander abilities that will specialize and upgrade your StUG's.  NOW also includes 3 Elite INfantry Commanders for the US, British and the Soviets. Originally a thank you to 1st Edition Backer's patience during Covid related manufacturing delays, they return, revised and updated again in the STUG Assault Pack.  Able to deploy the Devil's Brigade, Spetnaz and Commandos.

We have added this pack in response to some returning veteran backers that did not get the British Emplacement Pack during the 1st Edition. This is primarily for those veteran backers so that they would have the option of getting these models (without feeling like they need to get a full 2nd Edition British Player Set). New Backers can usually skip this as they will have 4 emplacement models (and now bofors guns since the recent stretch goal) in their British Player Set, although some new backers may want the extra emplacement models to handle the MG bunkers that a couple US and Wehrmacht commanders can construct or the Soviets forward HQ's (which are emplacements as well). 

Expand your Terrain Pack 1 Control Point Flags to cover the larger 3 and 4 panel maps. Maps and mission setups are being designed so that a single set of the Terrain Packs will cover most if not all maps, large and small. For the 3 and 4 panel maps however, additional flag poles are required. Current flag color choices are under review and discussion with the community. 

An Elite Stretch Goal in all Veteran Bundles - Includes OKW Supply Truck Setups, HQ Board, Infantry Trays and additional command cubes.

Unlocked for FREE for all Veteran Bundles, this kit will convert your 1st Edition OKW Expansion into a full player set. This was the one of the top requests of returning backers. Now your OKW Expansion will serve as an additional player set, more along the lines of the 2nd Edition OKW Player Set.  Note that New Backer Bundles will receive the OKW Setup Trucks found in this upgrade kit as well. Available for purchase for those backers not getting a bundle during the KickStarter. 

The Company of Heroes Board Game is an interesting hybrid of strategy, unit tactics and resource management; just like the video games. In our experience, if you like the video games and you like board games you WILL love this game. If you are unfamiliar with the video games, but like strategy board games, tactical miniatures games or war-games, you will PROBABLY like this game, it depends on whether you are looking for a relatively fast, medium complexity WW2 strategy game.

I Never Played the Video Games, Will I Still Love It? For those in the second category the important distinction to consider is that this is a cross between tactical skirmish games and economy-based resource management games so it feels and plays differently than most other games out there. While the CoH board game shares some common elements with skirmish games and tabletop miniatures games, (players are maneuvering units around on a map after all), it has such a large focus on securing, collecting and spending resources that the end experience is quite different! Playtesters that never played the video games, said they enjoyed the fun choices and purchases you get to constantly be making in addition to all the tactical maneuvering like occupying buildings, positioning mortars, or flanking to vehicle weak spots; but without getting bogged down by a lot of calculation, dice rolling or waiting between turns.
