Like many of you, we are constantly looking for better substitutes for standard dice, and we found a way to make these skull-core polyhedral dice (which we call it ‘Skull Dice’ in short) in the typical 16mm dimension. You may have heard about metal dice and plastic core dice, but this will probably be the first metal core dice in your collection. 

Death and survival are life’s most serious considerations, and since games imitate life, it deserves a serious thematic component when you are playing thematic Horror, Mystery, Zombies, Pirates, Post-Apocalyptic Tabletop RPGs or board games.

Metal Skull Core

The solid skull cores are made of zinc copper metal alloy. It adds a great look and premium feel to the dice. There are enough variety of the skull figures so that each of your polyhedral dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20) will have a unique skull core inside it. 

The Material

The dice will be cast with a clear, neutral color resin. A straightforward decision since we are making transparent dice. Resin is known to have better clarity compared to acrylic, and this is important because we want to see the skull core clearly. 

Metal Flakes

To improve the aesthetics of the dice a notch further, metallic flakes will be mixed around the metal skull core during casting. Common fancy dice usually use glitters, but that does not suit well with the Skull Dice. The metallic flakes will give nice light reflections and patterns, which greatly improves the aesthetics of the dice instead of plain transparent dice. These dice are going to rock and roll like classic metal songs.

The Edges

We decided to go for smooth-edge dice instead of sharp-edge design after hours of discussion and experiment (not exaggerating, literally hours, this is what nerds are cracking their skulls for) for three edgy reasons:

1) Smooth edges dice rolls better, therefore it is increases the randomness (ah sh*t, here we go again).

2) The edges of sharp edges dice are prone to wear-and-tear in the long run. We want our dice to last as long as possible because we will use them for many games, many gaming sessions, and many years.

3) The cost for making sharp-edges dice is significantly higher, which indirectly tells us that we are not going to financially recover from it. Although, there is a possibility to upgrade it to sharp edges with the Stretch Goal. Let’s see how the project rolls.

Note: We combine the reward level for D6 and D20 according to their quantity to simplify things. You can specify which dice set you need in the Pledge Manager after the campaign. 

We are running this project mainly to realize our wish to have better components and improve our gaming experience, as well as anyone else here who shares the same wish. Ultimately this is a passion project, we approach it like our dice roll: we are going to accept whatever the outcome is, but if it is a good roll, it’s great, because you know, crit happens.

Early Bird Special

Early Backers (who support the project on the first few days) will receive a special metal skull piece as a token of appreciation. This token should be an inch big, and can be used as a First Player or Active Player marker in your gaming session. A nice addition to the theme.

Wait. There's more. You will also get a Mystery Dice Pack, complimentary on the house as our token of appreciation for supporting us right on the start. We can't tell you what they will be exactly, because we have a variety of dice sets that we will allocate randomly to different Backers. We can tell you that it will be a nice surprise, and every Early Backer will receive something.

The prices shown are the estimated shipping fee for one dice set. If you are getting multiple dice sets, the subsequent set will only incur USD 2 for each set after the first set. The shipping fee will be calculated according to actual quantity and country of residence after the campaign on the Pledge Manager.

Other additional fees such as VAT / GST, import fee, custom fee and duty varies between countries and are usually settled by individual backers as applicable.
